Course Description
This course is designed to equip first responders with the essential knowledge and skills needed for successful interactions in situations involving individuals with Dementia, cognitive disease and cognitive delays. The curriculum covers key areas such as understanding dementia, effective communication strategies, recognizing and addressing common behaviors and signs, liability case law review, de-escalation techniques, methods for achieving safe outcomes, and available resources. To ensure the training's relevance and effectiveness, I incorporated feedback from local public safety departments and families affected by dementia during its development. We will also be offering an on-site dementia simulation for an immersive learning experience if the local hospice agency has the availability to do so.
One thing that I learned during my research is that dementia behaviors and communication is 99.9% like individuals with developmental delays such as autism etc., so this course will be beneficial for both cognitive diseases and delays.
